Moving in Orange County? These Tips Will Smooth the Ride!
Designate space
For a local move within Orange County or the greater Los Angeles area, set up the destination home to receive the boxes. Put up signs that read “Boxes Here” in parts of each room where the boxes can be placed so as to not be in the way.
Color-code
Designate a color, number, or favorite (insert dessert/team/food here) for each room of the house – boxes will be labeled accordingly and placed in those coordinated rooms. We’ll explain why shortly.
Oversupply
Do not skimp on boxes, packing materials, or tape. Whatever you think you need for your Orange County move, get more. You have more stuff than you think, and it wastes time to always be finding new material. Have it all on hand – you can always return most of what you don’t use.
Be honest about your possessions
When you clean out your house and start packing, you will inevitably find things that you never use, haven’t used or don’t intend to use ever again. As long as it does not have sentimental value, don’t pack it if you don’t really need it. Sell it, give it away, or donate it to charity. This will save you time and space on moving day.
Write it down
Label each box by color, number or whatever (referring to Step 2 above), pack items designated for that room and write the contents of the box down in a notebook. Utilize space as best you can; put as much closet items in the same wardrobe box, for example.
Pack similar things together
Fragile items should be well packed and cushioned, even if they actually are in different rooms (dinner ware and china, for example). DVDs and books, as an example, should each have their own boxes and not be mingled. Put heavy items in smaller boxes and lighter items in bigger ones; this makes all the boxes easier to lift and carry, even if you move locally in Orange County and use professionals.
